Karthika 2026 has 29 days for 30 chapters, so chapters 29 and 30 are read together on Karthika Amavasya (December 8). Families who follow the tithi read chapter N on Karthika tithi N — check your panchangam.
Chapter 30 — the story
The scene returns to Naimisharanya, where the sages who have heard all this from Suta ask for the simplest dharma for the Kali Yuga. Suta sums up the Karthika vow: a river bath while the Sun is in Tula, worship of Hari and Hara, giving lamps, reading the Purana in the evening, and giving in charity.
For those who cannot keep the whole month, the text offers Karthika Shuddha Pournami: keep the vow as far as you can, hear the Purana, keep a night vigil, and feed a Brahmin the next day — this, it says, brings the merit of the whole month. Those who could keep the vow but neglect or mock it are warned. With this the Karthika Puranam is complete.
What this chapter teaches
In the Kali Yuga, Karthika offers the simplest path: bathe, light a lamp, worship Hari and Hara, and give.
How to read the Karthika Puranam
- Read or listen to one chapter each day of Karthika Masam, usually in the evening after lighting the deepam.
- Many families read together after the pre-dawn Karthika snanam or at the Tulasi kota.
- These are short summaries; for the full text, read a printed Karthika Puranam or listen to a pravachanam.
