Muhurta Guidance

Akshaya Tritiya is a swayam siddha muhurta — auspicious throughout the full duration of Tritiya tithi. In 2026 (April 19), Tritiya extends through most of the day. There is no inauspicious period on this day for weddings, gold purchases, or new ventures — even Rahu Kalam is traditionally set aside as Akshaya Tritiya overrides all lesser considerations. That said, early morning (Brahma Muhurta through noon) is the most powerful window.

Wake before sunrise and take a ritual bath — abhyanga snanam with sesame oil and turmeric

Wear clean clothes, preferably yellow or white — colours associated with Vishnu and auspiciousness

Light a ghee lamp and offer yellow flowers, tulasi, and fresh fruit to Lord Vishnu

Recite Vishnu Sahasranamam or perform a simple "Om Namo Narayanaya" japa (108 times)

Offer annadanam (food donation) to Brahmins or to the poor — merit on this day is multiplied

If purchasing gold or silver, do so after completing the morning puja

For weddings: no additional muhurta calculation is required — the entire day is auspicious

Perform pitru tarpana if you have received guidance to do so — ancestors bless those who remember them on Akshaya Tritiya

Conclude with Lakshmi puja in the evening — light 5 lamps and offer kumkum and rice to Devi

Gold and silver purchases — Telugu families consider buying gold on Akshaya Tritiya mandatory for household prosperity; even a single gold coin counts as an auspicious purchase

Weddings and engagements — Akshaya Tritiya is the #1 wedding day in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana; venues book up 6 months in advance; no separate muhurta calculation needed

New business registrations — shops, companies, and ventures launched on this day are believed to be permanently blessed with growth

Ploughing of fields — farming communities traditionally begin the agricultural season with the first ploughing of land on Akshaya Tritiya morning

Satyanarayan Puja — performed in many Telugu households on this evening with neighbours invited to share prasadam

Akshaya Patra tradition — donating a vessel of food or water to a Brahmin on this day is said to ensure the vessel is never empty in your home
