Muhurta Guidance

Akshaya Tritiya is a swayam siddha muhurta — auspicious throughout the full duration of Tritiya tithi. In 2026 (April 19), Tritiya extends through most of the day. There is no inauspicious period on this day for weddings, gold purchases, or new ventures — even Rahu Kalam is traditionally set aside as Akshaya Tritiya overrides all lesser considerations. That said, early morning (Brahma Muhurta through noon) is the most powerful window.

Significance — ప్రాధాన్యత

Akshaya Tritiya (అక్షయ తృతీయ) falls on Vaishakha Shukla Tritiya — the third tithi of the bright fortnight of the month of Vaishakha. In 2026, this auspicious day falls on April 19. The word "Akshaya" means imperishable or inexhaustible — anything begun on this day is said to grow without decay.

Akshaya Tritiya is classified as a swayam siddha muhurta — a self-proven auspicious time that requires no separate muhurta calculation from an astrologer. Any auspicious action: marriage, grahapravesham, new business, purchase of gold or property, charitable giving — performed on this day is believed to bear lasting fruit.

Several profound events in Hindu scripture are associated with this day: Treta Yuga began on Akshaya Tritiya; Lord Parasurama (the sixth avatar of Vishnu) was born; the Ganges River first touched the Earth; Kubera (god of wealth) received his domain from Shiva; and Sudama visited Lord Krishna, transforming his poverty into abundance.

In Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Akshaya Tritiya is one of the most celebrated days of the year — thousands of weddings are performed, jewellery shops are packed with families purchasing gold, and temples conduct special puja programmes. The belief that gold purchased on this day brings lasting prosperity to the household is deeply embedded in Telugu tradition.

4

Recite Vishnu Sahasranamam or perform a simple "Om Namo Narayanaya" japa (108 times)

5

Offer annadanam (food donation) to Brahmins or to the poor — merit on this day is multiplied

6

If purchasing gold or silver, do so after completing the morning puja

7

For weddings: no additional muhurta calculation is required — the entire day is auspicious

8

Perform pitru tarpana if you have received guidance to do so — ancestors bless those who remember them on Akshaya Tritiya
