Chapter 10 — the story
Yama's messengers report their defeat, and Yama sees Ajamila's past with his divine sight. In his previous life Ajamila was a corrupt priest at a Shiva temple who stole its wealth and had an affair with a poor Brahmin's wife. After suffering in hell he was born as Satyavrata's son; Karthika merit and Narayana's name at the hour of death set him free.
The woman, too, after her time in hell, was born to an outcaste, abandoned in the forest and raised by a servant — and she became the companion of Ajamila's later life.
