Chapter 9 — the story
Continuing Ajamila's story, Vishnu's messengers ask why Yama's messengers have come, and Yama's messengers set out the kinds of sinners they are bound to take — claiming Ajamila as one of them.
Vishnu's messengers reply that the Lord's name destroys sin like fire, whether it is said knowingly or not. Yama's messengers withdraw, and Ajamila is freed from them to attain Vishnu's abode.
What this chapter teaches
The name of Hari, like fire, burns sin whether it is understood or not.
How to read the Karthika Puranam
- Read or listen to one chapter each day of Karthika Masam, usually in the evening after lighting the deepam.
- Many families read together after the pre-dawn Karthika snanam or at the Tulasi kota.
- These are short summaries; for the full text, read a printed Karthika Puranam or listen to a pravachanam.
