Chapter 22 — the story
On Karthika Pournami Puranjaya worships Narayana with the sixteen offerings, sings his praise, and bathes in the river at sunrise. An aged Brahmin devotee wearing tulasi garlands tells him to gather his scattered army and fight, and then vanishes.
Strengthened by the vow, Puranjaya defeats the Kamboja kings and their allies. The chapter stresses that devotion counts for more than birth or caste.
What this chapter teaches
Sincere devotion, not birth or rank, is what the Karthika vow rewards.
How to read the Karthika Puranam
- Read or listen to one chapter each day of Karthika Masam, usually in the evening after lighting the deepam.
- Many families read together after the pre-dawn Karthika snanam or at the Tulasi kota.
- These are short summaries; for the full text, read a printed Karthika Puranam or listen to a pravachanam.
