Chapter 27 — the story

Vishnu says he is bound both to protect his devotees and to honour the word of Brahmins — so Durvasa must go to Ambarisha himself.

He explains a king's duties and the wrongs against Brahmins counted as equal to killing one. He adds that Ambarisha, grieving that a Brahmin is in danger because of him, has resolved to fast unto death — so Durvasa should go to him at once.

What this chapter teaches

Peace comes when the one who did wrong goes to the one he wronged.

How to read the Karthika Puranam

  • Read or listen to one chapter each day of Karthika Masam, usually in the evening after lighting the deepam.
  • Many families read together after the pre-dawn Karthika snanam or at the Tulasi kota.
  • These are short summaries; for the full text, read a printed Karthika Puranam or listen to a pravachanam.
